Well, today is Christmas. It’s alright I guess. Breakfast was actually really not good! It was pretty much normal, but it just wasn’t good. We all got cards from the First Presidency, which they didn’t actually sign! And we got a Christmas package thing from our Mission Presidency. It’s got a tie, a marking pen (which is actually a pretty expensive one), a cd (that I don’t have a player for), and some other stuff.
Last night Elder Bednar came and talked to us with his family. It was actually a really good talk about Christmas. He talked about what the tree, the lights, and the shepherd represent. The tree and the lights both represent Christ, and the shepherds that saw the angels were only the ones that were guarding the temple flocks. And their sheep were all destined for temple sacrifice. It was really good. We had a chance to shake his hand, but Elder Tui wasn’t feeling good, so we brought him back to the Residence hall. I had to shake his hand through Elder Buras when he got back. Elder Holland came earlier today. His talk was pretty much just about having Christmas in the Field. It was pretty good, but not as good as Bednar’s. And we didn’t get a chance to shake his hand at all. We have two more firesides today I think.
I only got hungry once the second day I was here. They feed us a lot here and meals are so close together! It’s like 7:30, 12:00, 5:00. So I don’t get hungry. I have three roommates, Elder Powell (my comp), Elder Bower, and Elder Misilagi (the Samoan of our district.) There are 11 in our District: us four, Elders Buras, Valcorce, Wessling, Pollock, Crapo, Larson, and Tui. We all have a lot of fun.
Elder Misilagi talked to some other Samoan’s here and got some of us Lava Lavas, and their Maori (the New Zealand Polynesians) is teaching us how to do the New Zealand Haka. It’s pretty fun. We are going to do it on the 7th.
I do have a lot of pictures, but I haven’t printed any yet. Maybe tomorrow I will get them sent out. You can see me in my Lava Lava. They are really comfortable. You should all get one!
About when you said you feel like you’re writing too much, and you’re sorry if you’re bugging me, well I have a scripture for you to look up. Proverbs 25:25. Read it. I think all missionaries will agree with me.
Oh, a couple of things about Holland’s talk I forgot to tell you about. He said all you are whimps huddled around your fires, opening presents, and having your mothers feed you. lol. He also said that Frosty and Rudolph visited Christ after his birth. And if an apostle said it, it must be true.
I don’t need any Christmas presents. I like letters more right now. Besides, they don’t give us any time to ourselves up here to play games or anything. So just keep writing me. I love hearing from people. And don’t worry about me. I’m having fun so far! They don’t give us time to be bored, or homesick.
(To my brothers) Just a couple of things to prepare for when you get here. Official wake up is at 6:30, but don’t let that fool you. Real wake up is before that because you have to be in class by 7. Breakfast is sometime around there, for me it’s at 7:30. Class between then and 12, then it’s lunch. Then class from 12:45. Dinner at 5-5:45, then class ‘til 9:00. 9:00 is planning. You get back to your room around 9:30, get ready for bed, and then quit time at 10:15 and lights out at 10:30. The food is actually pretty good here, no complaints about that. But get used to praying a whole lot! I don’t know how many times a day you guys pray, but here it’s gonna be around 15-20 a day at least! And you will not be alone ever! Except to take a shower or use the bathroom. And that’s only in the residence halls. If you have to go to the bathroom anywhere else, your companion has to stand outside and wait for you. The store has everything you could ever need, and Gym time is like a God-given gift! It’s the best time you have here. Oh, that’s also a time you don’t have to be with your companion.
