Ramen, Peanut Butter & Jelly . . . and Eggs

January 26th

I miss Grandma Schlink’s dinners! Actually, I miss a lot of dinners! We only eat good dinners every once in a while. Other than that it’s whatever we can find. Usually Ramen, peanut butter and jelly, eggs . . . that kind of stuff. I need to start cooking good food, but we don't really have time and I don't really have money right now. We did make pancakes this morning and we got lasagna last night from a member. That was our fast breaking meal cuz we had a mission fast yesterday.

I don't really remember what I told you so far so I'll just kinda start over. The day we left the MTC we flew into St. Louis and waited around for like 45 minutes before we got picked up. Then we went to the President’s house where he let us put our bikes together. Then we kinda toured the mission home and claimed our beds. We ate dinner, lasagna and Texas toast . . . it was really good! We taught the APs a quick first lesson, watched a movie on car safety and filled out some papers. Then we took a shower . . . that was the best shower ever . . . I really want one like that!

The next day we woke up and drove to the chapel where we met our new companions. We drove down to Sikeston and stopped by the distribution center to get me some thermal garments and we stopped by Cracker Barrel for lunch. We got here and I unpacked and went shopping for things that I needed.

The rest of the story is pretty much standard mission stuff except the two days after I got here it was about 18 and 10 degrees . . . so about 5 degrees and lower when you add windchill, AND we went out tracting! It was cold, but fun. We also set a date for a baptism the second day I was out. That was pretty cool.

That’s pretty much been the way life is here. The weather is crazy! Like one day it was 60 degrees and felt so good, then the next day it was 20. The weather is supposed to be really bad this week!

Okay, so my comp is pretty cool. He is like a mix between Garrin, Tysen, and Justin. The things he says and the way he says them or does things and his sense of humor remind me a lot of Tysen and Garrin, and he is like Justin and I when we quote movies and stuff. He has seen a lot of the same movies, so that is cool cuz that is pretty much exactly what we used to do. I don’t really know what else you would want to know about him.

Okay, well I don't know what else you want to know. If you want more specifics you're gonna have to ask more specific questions. Just try to get people to write me is all I want. Anyway, I'll talk to you all later! love you!

Sikeston

January 19th

I already wrote an email today, but I didn't get to write much. So here is the better letter.

I'm living in a small town called Sikeston. It's the farthest south area in our mission. I am in an apartment with just Elder Harmon. It's a two-bedroom apartment, but missionaires have to sleep in the same room, so the second one is our workout room. We have a big white board in our living room with all our investigator's names and the less actives and recent converts. We have maps of our area, Sikeston, and of the whole Stake. We just went shopping today so now there is some food in this house for me. Anyway, we live at the Virginia Pine Apartments.

I've already got a baptism date set! Last Friday, a guy we've been teaching committed to be baptized on the 21st! So that will be cool. I also gave my companion a blessing today. First one ever. I was extremely nervous! AND, I gave it with the bishop there. Then we went to a men's clothing store and I bought this sweet tie . . . it really is pretty (green and white.) I'll have to take a picture and show it to you.

Anyway, the whole mission got rebuked a couple of months ago, so now as punishment everyone has to sleep in their proselyting clothes (white shirt, tie, slacks and belt). It's really not that cool, so I hope they stop that soon.

Somewhere in Missouri

January 19th
It's Monday, which is my new p-day out in the field. It works for me but that meant that I had to go almost two weeks without writing or anything . . . which was not cool, but whatever. The bike was at the Mission home when we got there and Pres. Turley let us put them together when we got there. That night we had a little intro to the mission, a testimony meeting, and we watched a movie on car safety cuz lots of the missions use cars here. Mine is one of them. Good thing too, cuz the first two days I was here, the weather was like 18 degrees the first day and 10 the next . . . and windy. So, add windchill onto that and it was WAY cold . . . and we went tracting! How awesome are we?

My companion's name is Elder Harmon. He's been out nine months and I'm already his second greenie so he must be really good! He is getting sick right now, but I don't think that will stop him from working!

I really haven't been drinking any milk out here and I don't really miss it, so I think you are wrong about me being the one drinking all the milk at home. Somebody else just stopped using what they used before. They probably are just depressed cuz I'm not there. : )

Well once again, not much detail, but we have to share one computer today so I gotta keep my time short. I'll write more next week. I love you all!

January 9th

My whole district is leaving on Tuesday. It's gonna be fun. Some of them are going to Sacramento so we won't be seeing each other again probably after Tuesday morning.

We have had a lot of sickness and injuries in our district. It's been kind of bad, but I have been good.

I got my hair cut today and they totally do it the best way if you are trying to do a faux hawk! You use a shop vac right down the middle of your head and it styles it for you. It was pretty cool. (And the haircut girls were talking to me. lol)

The MTC is going good. I'm ready to go, but I'm kinda not too.
